A 21-year-old man was sentenced to 29 years in prison for the 2007 shooting death of a LaPlace teenager, the St. John the Baptist Parish district attorney's office announced Monday.

District Judge J. Kling sentenced Craig Moore, 2047 Champions Drive in LaPlace, to 29 years in prison at hard labor in the homicide of Hubert Ellsworth IV, said a district attorney's office spokesman.

Maj. Mike Tregre, the district attorney's office spokesman, said Moore was sentenced on July 15 in Edgard.

Moore pleaded guilty to manslaughter on March 2.

Ellsworth, 19, of LaPlace was shot to death in front of a home in the 1600 block of Yorktowne Drive around 9:40 p.m. on July 27, 2007.

A handgun found at the scene contained DNA that matched Moore's, Tregre said. Moore later admitted in court to shooting Ellsworth, Tregre said.

Moore told authorities he and Ellsworth had been arguing over a car stereo system and that Ellsworth pulled a handgun, Tregre said.
